There are loads of different ways to do it, so you'll probably get a different answer depending on who you ask. It also depends on whether or not you want to use stock control from the admin side or whether you just ignore stock-levels on the vpasp admin product records. You can use parent/subproducts, or, you could create the 2 products (a single, and a box/bundle) as 2 products in their own right and then cross-sell them. Personally I'd use the cross-selling. eg create the 2 products, the single, and the box/bundle then on the cross-selling field of each of those I'd select the corresponding other one. That means that you'd get 2 different product pages on the customer side (one for the single, and one for the bundle) but on each of those you'd also see the other type as a link. You could make a tweak to the cross-selling display to add an "add-to-cart" link. or, you could use parent/sub products instead
In case you do decide to go down the cross-selling route, you might find our addon useful, it's not mandatory because vpasp already has cross-selling, but it makes it more flexible etc:
