We need a link from our product pages to the sub category that each product is found in, (instead of the main category). On our pages this is called the Related Products link example here -> http://www.fcsurplus.ca/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=513
Currently we can only link to back to the main categories which is really too many products. We selected the correct sub categories when we initially entered product data into the products table but we see all values in the subcategoryid field are currently set to "0". Where did this data go? Any ideas how we can get find the sub categories for our products and get them into the product table so we can link to them? Thanks!

We are taking another look at trying to fix this problem of getting the Related Products button to link to a sub category product page. Currently the related products points to the the parent category.

Here is an example of what I mean. The related products for this GMRS radio points to the parents electronic section, not the 2 way radio category

put your subcat #s in level3
run convertproducts.asp at only 2,000 products per run

<form method="post" name="related" action="shopquery.asp?level3=mycatnumber">

<input class="" type="submit" value="Related products" name="Shopquery">
</form>
should work when you populate each record with the number you want and modify your form for seperate forms for each product.

http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shopexd.asp?id=790#790 says
Category Displays
File shopdisplaycategories.asp is the main navigation starting point in VP-ASP. It allows you to drill down through your categories and sub categories. It can be used to display the highest level of categories or it can be used to display specific category and its subcategories. This cannot be included in a header/footer but a link can be placed anywhere on your site.

This allows drill down of subcategories to any depth.

shopdisplaycategories.asp?id=5 Displays category 5 and all its subcategories

Direct Link to a specific product
A specific product can be displayed in a number of ways.
shopexd.asp?id=55 Will display detailed extended description of a product
shopquery.asp?catalogid=55 Displays normal product description for product 55
shopquery.asp?cprice=100 Displays all products under $100
shopquery.asp?pother5=new Displays all products with the word New in the pother5 field

You can include the form by stashing it in a /forms folder and using the include function in the product record http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shopexd.asp?id=760#760

i like using static extended descriptions, so you could get real flexible there
