I am setting up a new shop and have already decided to go with Authorize.Net. I wrote to them requesting which method they would recomend (see below). Can anyone post real-world experience regarding the pros and cons of each method.

Greetings from Authorize.Net!

AIM is our perferred option. It requires that your site is hosted on a secure server. It also gives your developers more control over how things look, and our URL never appears to your customer. With SIM, you have less control of the payment form as it hosted on our server, and the customer is passed to our website for security, however it does not require a secure server.

I've just recently (6 weeks ago) gone live with a VP-ASP store using Authorize.Net's AIM method. With the gateway pages provided by VP-ASP, implementation was a breeze.

The closest thing to a downside of using AIM is that you have to have your own SSL certificate.
