Hi,

We're looking for an off-the-shelf shopping cart that will allow use to sell our flooring products by size. We'd like the user to be able to enter a length and breadth in cm (effectively creating a bespoke rectangular tile), then use this calculated by the square cm price to provide a total. There would also be a dropdown box listing three thicknesses, and another free range box for number of tiles.

Is VP-ASP a good tool to accomplish this?

Cheers,

Jimmy.

Hi Jimmy,

this cart could, with a little custom coding, be configured to do what you are asking but personally I think it would be much better and a lot easier for your customers if you perhaps offered a range of predetermined sizes for your floor tiles. Most people I know would only measure the length and breadth of the room, find out a standard tile size, work out how many they need and then go hunting for patterns and type. Unless you are pitching at a specific upmarket customer or trades I feel that providing a custom size calculator may just throw a spanner into the works. These days internet customers want - secure, find it fast, easy to understand sites.

Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. When you say a "little custom coding" could you give an indication of what we're talking about i.e. minutes, hours, days.

In a normal environment I'd agree entirely with you regarding predefined sizes, however the flooring uses specialist decorative materials that sort of fit together as a mosaic. This site is customer driven and they are demanding that we offer this service. It is easy for us to fulfil and otherwise the only issue is the online cart.

Cheers,

Jimmy.

A couple of hours work I think but it depends on the actual functionality of the size/price calculator. There are a few good custom coders that I could recommend if you decide to purchase the cart software, maybe some others in here could post their views.
