Back to FAQ Index

VP-ASP supports the following databases

Access 97/2000/2002 databases
SQL Server
MYSQL Database on Windows

Microsoft Access

VP-ASP comes included with a Microsoft Access 2000 database. If you would like to use Access 97, we can supply a copy in that format on request. Access 2002 and later versions can also be used with VP-ASP.

Microsoft is an adequate solution for most small to medium shops, which will support thousands of products. The actual performance is very dependent on many factors that include the web hosting company you are using.

A sample shop with products are included.

SQL Server

Microsoft SQL Server is a more robust and efficient database.

Please note that some web hosting companies will charge extra for using SQL Server over using Access.

We will supply a script that creates the VP-ASP tables and the VP-ASP will automatically will handle unique SQL Server features such as date formats. We also will have support staff that can answer SQL specific questions. The script is included in the distribution package.

Configuration of SQL Server will be through the normal configuration file and no code changes will be necessary to use all features of VP-ASP Shopping Cart.

If your businesss outgrows Access, you can switch to SQL Server with minimal effort. There are only a few VP-ASP configuration options to change. SQL Server comes with migration tool that will allow you to move data from your Access database to the SQL Server Database.

SQL Server is much more complex than Access and anyone using it should have a reasonable amount of expertise.
