Hi everyone,

Last month Google launched their new algorithm ‘Google Panda’. With the update, Google rewards websites with high quality content by moving them to the top of search results while punishing low quality content websites by moving them down search results or even blocking them completely.

Google judges low quality websites to be those which rely on ‘dirty’ SEO tactics such as keyword stuffing, content spinning and irrelevant back linking, high quality sites on the other hand are those which contain original, useful content which enriches a user’s search experience.

To ensure you get the most out of Google’s Panda update, ensure you have well-written, unique content on your website with social media links so your customers can share your content with their friends and family, these shares create genuine links back to your website which help to improve your search ranking.

The new algorithm also measures how long a user spends on a webpage, if a user lands on your page and immediately clicks off it, Google will interpret this as an indication of low quality and your search rankings will suffer. To counter this, ensure your content is well laid out and have as much information ‘above the fold’ as possible so that users spend longer on your site.

A useful tool for seeing how much of your website is ‘above the fold’ in various screen sizes is Google’s browser size application.

In my opinion, the new algorithm is a positive change as it allows smaller, individual websites with content that is useful and interesting to users to get nearer to the top of search results.

Happy Selling!
