We want to start selling "ebooks" on our site. These will be PDF files for download after a successful credit card transaction. We obviously want the customer to only be able to download the product that they have purchased. We also do not want any noncustomer to be able to access the the ebook files. My first thoughts are giving the customer access to a password protected directory with the file in it. Any advice or recommendations on how to approach this ecommerce scenario using VPASP would be greatly appreciated.

You can use the secure download facility; that'll do what you need.

There are some restrictions, but if you want to deal with those restrictions then you can use this addon for multiple-file downloads, labelling, and other enhancements:
