you can switch it to use html formatted order confirmations by switching the config options, the options are:
xemailformat (change from "Text" to "Html")
xmerchantemail (change from "tmp_merchantemail.txt" to "tmp_merchantemail.htm")
xcustomeremail (change from "tmp_customeremail.txt" to "tmp_customeremail.htm")
xemailwithtemplates (make sure this is set to "Yes")
I think you need to have the options-package for that though.
We've also got an addon which has a nicer/preformatted html receipt, which in turn can be tweaked; our "packing slip" addon has 4 elements, and you can use any of those 4:
1) Admin Screen Slip
2) Customer Screen Slip
3) Admin Order Confirmation HTML Email
4) Customer Order Confirmation HTML Email
