Ok, I give up. How do I shift random products to the top of the home page?

on your default.asp find <%Displayrandomproducts%>

move that line to where ever you want

Bingo. Got it.

In my case I'm using a highly modified cart with an assembled page ie tmp_defaulttemplate.asp which made things a tadge more complex to find the code but in default.asp found the lines:

Displayrandomproducts
shoppagetrailer

merely moved displayrandomproducts under header statement like:

shoppageheader
Displayrandomproducts

Just posting that in case anyone has a similar setup.

Thanks - sorted that prob out nicely. Half the fun of VPASP is working on the page you THINK you should be working on and then finding yourself wading through all the include files and THEIR includes - lol.
