Greetings Shopping Cart Experts,

When someone checks out of our cart and they live in California, we must charge sales tax. This works okay if the customer enters "CA". But if the customer enters "Ca", or "CA.", or "Ca.", or "Calif.", etc, then the cart does not calculate tax. I've entered "CA,California,Ca,ca,Ca.,ca.,Calif,calif,Calif.,calif." into the "xtaxstatename" field, but this doesn't seem to help.

What have I done wrong here?

Hi there,

Please ensure that you have the same number of corresponding tax rates in xtaxstaterates as state names for California.

It means that if you have ten variations of California name set in xtaxstatename you need to have ten numbers of taxes for California set in xtaxstaterates.

Please see our help note at http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shopexd.asp?id=285 for more details.

If you have set both fields correctly and it does not work only because customers typed California in some way you have not set in xtaxstatename the best option here will be to turn on the feature with states dropdown list provided by VP-ASP.

In this case your customers will not be allowed to type a state name and they will need to select it from the list. Then you can set California as a single CA in xtaxstatename without any variation and taxes by state will work fine. To turn this dropdown list you need to set xincludestates to Yes in your shop admin and reload your shop config.

Regards,

VP-ASP Support
