I want to be able to sell made-to-measure fabric with different price bands.

The fabric is sold by the metre.

Width / price per metre
up to 36" = £6.80
37"- 40" = £7.00
41" - 45" = £7.80
46" - 48" = £8.20
49" - 54" = £8.60
55" - 60" = £9.20
61" - 63" = £9.60
64" - 72" = £10.80
73" - 81" = £11.60
82" - 90" = £12.00
91" - 108" = £13.80

so if i want some fabric measuring 47" by 2 metres i look down the chart to see 46"-48" width = £8.20 and multiply this by the number of metres (x 2) = £16.40

how do it get vpasp cart to do this...?

How about use product features for this? Have each individual measurement range as a feature option with its individual price, then a separate feature to capture the exact size (e.g 57").. The quantity can then be the number of metres. Then set xallowdecimalquantity to yes, so your customers can put 2.4 (for 2.4 metres) in the quantity field.

want the user to be able to enter two measurements (their width and their length (in metres)) and have it calculate the price.

it seems to me that using features this way would mean that you have a long list of widths the user has to choose from.

i'm basically looking at doing this:
