I think the best thing you can do to make this shopping cart more appealing is change it to css formatting. It'd then be super easy to format the shopping cart anyone you wanted and be complient with future technologies.

I agree 100%.

I'm trying to make it look the way I want and to integrate some other elements (a forum etc) all with a common look and feel.

CSS makes this so easy.

I don't want to spend days changing it all to CSS and then find that a few weeks later it becomes CSS 'out of the box'.

I recall reading that this is on the 'to do' list, but with a low priority - however, I believe that it's actually quite important.
