can anyone tell me exactly what characters my csv file can not have in it. I know that a comma is one what are the others? I keep getting an error when trying to upload.

Thanks,
Wes

If you show us a snippet of the file it may help figure out if there is a problem with it. It may just be the format that you're entering the info on the vpasp import screen.

I'm just wondering. I had a guy that was helping me because he got me started with the cart. He told me that importing files can't have certin things in it. If it does you will get an error and comma's were one of them. He said there were others I just don't know what else he said.

fixed the error on my own. Does anyone know what charters he may have been talking about?

could be a combination; usually it's:
double-quotes, commas, physical newlines (as opposed to "<br>") in some kind of combination

what we do for importing is we customised our vpasp import asp file to allow for tab-separated-files (just do a save/as on your existing csv file in excel and save-as-tab-separated to create a tab-separated file). we did that because tab-separated files are generally much much more reliable/safer than commas-separated ones as people don't usually put tabs inside their data, even in memo/html fields.

How did you change your import asp file to make it accept tab-separated-files and not commas?

We've now posted a solution for how to do this, and it's surprisingly simple:
