I'm setting up a new store using the demo site that comes with VPASP and trying to check it out on the live server. I changed the shopconfig.asp file to show where the database is, name, etc, entered the order number and tried to just run the demo prior to putting in my own products and changes. I'm using the Access database. When I click on the "Shopping" link in "default.htm" I get the following error.
Error Type: Server.MapPath(), ASP 0175 (0x80004005) The '..' characters are not allowed in the Path parameter for the MapPath method. /shop/shop$db.asp, line 254
Browser Type: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Page: GET /shop/shopdisplaycategories.asp

This is a problem with the setup that your host has applied for your site.
On the latest version of windows servers, the default settings are to disable parent paths. If you contact your host and ask them to enable parent paths for your site then you should be fine.
If your host refuses to do that, and if they just quote microsoft's "advice", then ignore your host and move to another host.
