I placed <%navigateshowcategories%> into the existing left navigation table that comes with vpasp, but it also inserts a white background that I want to change to the existing default background color so that it blends in. How is this accomplished?

You can edit the file shopproductsubs.asp around line 232 and either change the routine NavCatTable or comment out nav cat table and add your own table tag here and set the background as needed.
