Hellow,
I am trying to setup my new board and having a bit of difficulty getting Mysql to work with the asp. I have mysql setup on my c: drive and my site is on my D: drive. The instructions tell me to enter infi in the shop$config.asp file as follows.
const xDatabase="mysql500" 'Database name
const xdatabasetype="MYSQL" ' Do not change this
const xSQLUser="myuserid" ' change to user userid
const xSQLPwd="mypassword" 'change to your userid
const xSQLServer="localhost" ' Normally this will be OK
,however, there is one more paramater in the actual file it is the "location of database relative to VP-ASP files" paramater.
my database is setup correctly with the names and passwords. but I get this error.
Open Messages
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

DRIVER={MySQL}; Server=localhost; Database=mysql500; UID=xxxx; PWD=xxx
Sql completed. Records read=0
any advice?
thanks

I just purchased VP.ASP and have the same problem.
It is more than a little disturbing the see this post
unanswerd in 4 months!

I am running Win98 SE. PWS installed and working.
MySql installed and working.

Error message:

Have a look here on the Microsoft support website.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q306345

Double-check your DSN. If you have a typo in the path to the .mdb file you can get this error.

If the .mdb file is in some location outside of your web, make sure the IIS user account has permissions to the .mdb file.

It is remotely possible there is a registry permissions problem where IIS can't get to the DSN registry entries.

Thanks for the info, but I am running win98SE and the
PWS server -- that note says it applies to IIS.
In addition there is no '80004005' error message.

Trying to examine that note for clues I am brought up
short by references to the ADO connection string.

Any Idea where in the source code the database connection
attempt is made?

An update -- It is working.
Main problems were
1) Needed mysql ODBC driver ( you can see I'm new to this!)
2) I was adding a user for VPASP but not updating the Db table.
3) Code was not issuing a 'use <database>' command to select the
database.
4) Was unprepared for how slow it was -- Demo setup about 30 min

Do you have the MYSQL drivers installed?
They can be downloaded at:

http://mysql.netvisao.pt/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html

After install click on odbc from control panel > Administrative Tools

and click add and click Mysql and then put in MYSQL information.

Just worked for me.
