Here's what I'd like to do. How do you setup the shopthanks.asp page to give the user a link to click to download a file from a secure site? After a customer makes a purchase, the shopthanks.asp page creates a printable reciept that should include link for them to click on to start downloading thier purchase. How do I set that up?

If you've got the option pack, you can use secure downloads; that will do what you need. Customers can download from 2 areas:
1) shopthanks (immediately after their payment)
2) review-previous-orders (then click on the order number)

There are some restrictions, but if you want to deal with those restrictions then you can use this addon for multiple-file downloads, labelling, and other enhancements:
