Couple of challenges in developing several sites under one database (MSSQL).

1. Made each site a directory under an IP for development. The two added sites work sometimes but sometimes we get the "installation/default.asp" error when trying to get to the home page. There seems to be a re-direct on shop$db.asp. Is this because they are in the same directory or because we have no domains attached to them yet. Each has it's own domain name.

2. When we add products to the "master" site, how would we have the other two pull the images from the main site's image directory?

It's easier to accomplish this using the same directory (using IIS to set-up the unique domain names to each) since we want to use the same images on most but not sure that's needed.

We've had that installation error when trying to develop a second site in a sub-directory on another site. That one I cannot provide another domain name. The second site has to be located in that directory if possible.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi, Dave

For issue #2, I would suggest to try using a full URL when setting the image path. For example, you might want to use this format:

http://www.yoursite.com/images/image.jpg

Instead just using this:

images/image.jpg

Hope this helps!

After some trial and many errors, here's how we fixed the issues. Placing the sites in completely different directories and using unique domain names solved the installation link we were getting.

Images? Server Setting in IIS6. We created Virtual Directories called them "images" in each of the two sites pointing that virtual directory to the main website's image folder. Works great.

So we are now able to manage all three sites in the one Admin and can edit layout (selecting, products, pages, etc.). The only thing we've had an issue with is Language resetting. We have to log in to each site's admin to reset it. Small price to pay really.

thanks again and for the suggestion.
