I must admit the release of add-ons to hosted customers before everyone else is a bit unfair.
Google mark up people that host in their own territory so I and many others can't host with you.

Hi Mark,
From what we can find Google do not penalise you for hosting in a different country if your TLD is country specific.
If you have say a .com domain and host outside of the US then Google will look to the servers IP address.
If you have a .co.uk domain and host outside of the UK Google will take the TLD, the .co.uk, and understand this is a geo targeted site and will favour it irrespective of its location.
Doing some Googling on this I found a massive amount of opinion and schools of thought.
Was way too hard to get an accurate idea so I went into Googles own Webmaster tools to see if they had an answer for this.
One of the posts I found was this:
http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=62399&topic=2371325&ctx=topic
Another one on the subject, but more generically for sites targetting multiple countries and languages was:
http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=182192&ctx=cb&src=cb&cbid=-6km62h3s4ray&cbrank=0
We are going to put together a blog article covering what we have found.
In regards to releasing to our hosting customers first, we do treat customers hosting with us as priority customers.
We also see our hosting as a great resource to use as a test bed where we control the environment so as a result our hosting customers and Business Ready customers especially will always get first chance at anything new we release.
So saying we will be doing some beta testing shortly for external customers for our mobile solution and will post a blog about this when ready to have people sign up.
Thank you.

Interesting, OK let's look at it from another perspective. Google now gives weight to load time / speed.
I have my site geo-targeted to the UK. So google tests site speed based on tests from the UK. It's always going to be slower testing a site based in Australia from the UK than a server in the UK

Any news on this now?
Looks like we should have moved forward with some other mobile fix. Leaving your customers waiting for something that never happens is not a good way to treat them. Being silent about it is probably the worst thing you can do.

A year on, are you any closer to releasing the mobile version, now over 2 years in development?

Hi Phil,
We do have a version for version 7 externally hosted customers but it is a very custom integration.
The mobile platform will be available to plug into version 8 but for version 7 stores it is a custom addition.
If interested in a quote please send through a request in our helpdesk and our development team will be happy to review and quote for you.

Is the mobile solution going to be responsive, or will it be a separate app?
It seems responsive is *the* way to do it these days. Advantages over jQuery mobile or the like
1) you have only a single front end to design and maintain 2) mobile site is much richer, inheriting more of the look and feel of full site, rather than attempting to clone eg an iPhone app 3) Future proof - can set break points at a variety of screen sizes.
This third point is pretty cool - I''ve been experimenting with one of the .net carts that has responsive design... it can even change to use more of the screen when I flip my phone sideways. |

For the version 800 release it will be responsive.
The version we have for 700 works using a separate template and calls either the normal template or the mobile template depending on what device is being used.
Thank you.

Announced in May 27 2011 - now March 2014 and still no mobile version?
I am so happy that we didn''t tell our clients that it was just around the corner three years ago!

I would prefer a fully responsive theme than a separate theme for mobile and desktop
Having looked around at the major open source carts, VPASP is still the most featured and has excellent in house support. Just needs more developers building themes (especially responsive) to make it more successful

Hi Cam,
Is there any news on mobile storefront? I have some potential customers who like to get the cart but they are waiting for Mobile Version. I know you and your team are working hard to have it ready but is there any time frame on this?
Thanks, |
