I am trying to set up V7 using windows xp sp3.
If I try to change the admin folder properties to read and scripts as described in
Setting Up XP Professional I get an error
The alias "LM/W3SVC/1/Root/admin" already exists.
Please choose a different alias.
Does any one know what should be done please.
Thanks
John

Hi John,

I think you can follow the solution that posted below :
http://sanjaysainitech.blogspot.com/2007/06/error-alias-lmw3svc1rootwebapplication.html

It is actually a common issue in web application.

Rgrds.

Thanks for the answer,

I have tried several times deleting and replacing the IIS virtual server but still get the error on admin or config.

Further to this item
I found eventually that
The helpnotes for V7 on Page http://helpnotes.vpasp.com/shopexd.asp?id=715 Setting Up XP Professional recommends using Web Sharing and in the picture of vpasp Properties on that page the Security tab is not present.
When I used that method it failed

The method used in the page http://www.webwizguide.com/kb/asp_knowledgebase/server_permissions.asp and recommended by support is the same as I have used on other .asp websites and allowed the wizard to complete its work successfully.

I hope this helps someone else.
Cheers
John
