To answer your question, I did this once and it worked nicely
<tr><td style="border-style:solid;border-width:1px;border-color:#333;background: url('img/site/some-image_450x450-16COLORS.gif') no-repeat center">
<object id="MediaPlayer1" ....blah-blah---------

Get the "FlowPlayer" - 98.5% of broswers / people hav support for it
It is less jerky / Plays from any WebHost
Loads automatically and all you need is
<a href="http://www.your site.com/media/your movie.flv" style="display:block;width:425px;height:300px;" id="player"> </a>
<script language="JavaScript">flowplayer("player", "media/flowplayer-3.1.2.swf"); </script>

Thanks for the heads up on this.

I've just implemented Flowplayer on our site, easy to set up and works great.

I'll second flowplay, piece of cake to set up.
