We sell repair parts and would like to offer post purchase access to repair guides. The ideal setup would be a link to our guides that would become active on the customer account menu if there was any purchase history.

We are in a competive business and don't want to give away these support services to those who do not buy from us. We also don't want competitors having free access to a sample for them to build on.

Has anyone done this or anything similar?

I believe the cart offers downloads via an option package. Have you looked into this?

Yes.
Make a mirror and register your customers there.
Then use the xloginforce and CMS to post your info for Registered Users only.

You could make it CatalogOnly ,
but I would actually use it to sell upgrades and have special pricing for my special customers.

You can also register them for different pricing levels.
