Hi,

I understand what you want to do, but it is far more complicated than a redirect for hidden products. At the moment I do not have enough time to look into it and I think it might be beyond my capabilities anyway.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Kindest regards,

Carrol

From experience don't redirect. Have a landing page which explains that you are out of stock or if the itemis discontinued.

This is quite easy to do, but does take a bit of legwork first.

First create new expanded view product tempates which do not have the buy button include and name them the same as the original but with a generic name at the start. For instance if you have tmp_product.html and tmp_product1.html you could have tmp_tmp_product.html and tmp_tmp_product1.html.

Then in shopexd locate the GetTemplate sub. Directly before the End Sub add in:

if tmpRS("hide")<>False then
template="tmp_" & template
end if

This then causes the product to use your new template of the item is hidden.

Works well and is fairly easy to do.

Hope this helps everyone.

Just saw this thread and it relates closely to what I am after...I don't want to give up that hard earned search standing on a recently discontinued item. That traffic is great to educate a customer and sell them something current.

I just posted over in the SEO forum as well...are any of you using the VPASP SEO Pack? I just noticed all of my hidden products are going straight to 404 errors now.
