Can anyone give me a ballpark price (in US dollars) for what it would cost including the software needed, to add a feed for Google Base to my shopping cart? I'm using version 6.5.
I have contacted the web maintenance team that I usually work with for a quote, but I'm a bit nervous as to what the price will be. The support department left me a voice mail stating the owner of the company would like to do a conference call with me next week to discuss my different options. I'm getting the impression (from a previous conversation with them) that it may cost a lot to add this feature to my cart.
However, I've been told by someone who doesn't use VPASP's shopping cart, that it should be less than a $100 to set my cart to automatically add products to Google Base.
Adding the software isn’t something I want to try to do myself. I would like get some opinions of the price that I should expect to pay for the add on and to have it installed in my cart.

no need to have a customisation done; we've got a googlebase addon for vpasp available as an addon off the shelf:
Google Base Feed (BYZ056) : http://www.bigyellowzone.com/shopexd.asp?id=76
also: Yahoo Feed (BYZ040) : http://www.bigyellowzone.com/shopexd.asp?id=46
or if you want both, you can get a bundle: GoogleBase and Yahoo Feed Bundle (BYZ058, includes BYZ040/BYZ056) : http://www.bigyellowzone.com/shopexd.asp?id=78
$100 for a custom-built googlebase feed would be ridiculously cheap; the logic you'll end up needing is deceptively complex when you get into it, and google's rules constantly change so you'd need to pay to maintain the code too. Whereas with an off-the-shelf addon it's a fraction of the price and you can get upgrades without having to pay for extra development (eg it's already reached Version 13 so it's often changing in response to feedback and googlebase spec changes)
If you wanted, you could order our installation service, or pay someone else to install it, but you probably wouldn't need that because the readme file is quite detailed and the installation is quite simple for the feeds.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm still seeking a ballpark figure for the software and installation. I looked at your website, but I'm not sure how much it would be in US dollars. One of the options they mentioned is to purchase your software. I haven't heard what the other options are. I don't know if I should expect a quote of $200 for software plus installation or if $600 would be closer to the price. |

The software is £35, which would equate to around $70.
Installation, if you don't already have any byz addons, might take around half an hour to an hour depending on how much experience the person has with installing/configuring the software.
So, depending on their hourly rate I guess you'd be looking at somewhere around $100 to $200 for software plus installation.
It shouldn't take longer than an hour for a developer to do the full install/configuration for the feed.
If you don't want an open-ended installation cost then you could use our installation service, there are 2 options on that front:
1) Per-Order Installation (£50, around $100) : http://www.bigyellowkey.com/mysoftware_product_details.asp?prdid=337&opu=n
2) Permanent Installation Cover (£100, around $200) : http://www.bigyellowkey.com/mysoftware_product_details.asp?prdid=280&opu=n
