I would like to make a variation on the digital downloads feature. Instead of a download, I would like to take the user to a protected page with the ofirstname, olastname, and oemailaddress embedded. This will be used to create a beacon for a magazine clearing house that provides digital access to customers. They provide tracking and other services which is why we don't want to maintain the digital files ourselves.
I have two ideas about how to do this. One is to modify the merchant message on the shopthanksmerchant.asp page to display if appropriate items appear in the order. Second, I could modify the behavior of the download file so that the file is just a link to a protected webpage. I think there might be a slight usability problem in that if the order display is an SSL page, the browser security might not like the beacon targeting the other site. Any comments are appreciated.
