in trying to improve security, securityinfo.txt tells me: You can hide the name of the VP-ASP administration page.
so I've renamed the file to xxx.asp and added the lines
to shop$config.asp
xAdminPage=xxx.asp (not really xxx.asp, but as an example.
xShowAdmin=No

there must be another step, this seems to shut things down,
appreciate any advice, thanks

You don't add those lines to shop$config. Open the shop configuration table in the DB. Change xadmin to the new name and set xshowadmin to No.
Reload the shop configuration.
