Then 10th Annual Online Fraud Report (2009 Edition) reports an estimated $4 Billion in online revenues were lost in 2008 due to online fraud. This figure represents a staggering $1 Billion increase over the past 2 years.

The report also goes on to highlight that many merchants are underestimating the cost of online fraud to their business by focusing heavily on chargebacks as the primary cost measure. But it’s only part of the picture and your business could be hurting more than you know.

You know it never fails to surprise me just what you can successfully sell online. In the early days of ecommerce I remember being involved with many companies whose leaders swore black and blue that their product could never be sold online.

In the process of philosophically relegating themselves to traditional bricks and mortar storefronts many of these companies have unwittingly opened up a vacuum inside which new and switched on competitors are establishing themselves and finding their niche.
