Hi People!

I would like to know the setting of the robots.txt file

I wish that google indexs only pages of products and categories

http://www.stockelettrico.it/products/14082-TERMDGT-BUILT-TOUCH-SCREEN-3VDC-PER-BTIVIW/

http://www.stockelettrico.it/products/c467-ABB-Differentials-Puri-2-Poli/

and I don''t want that google shows things like this

http://www.stockelettrico.it/shopdisplayproducts.asp?search=yes&bc=no&queryprefix=No&cname=O

so things are important about /products/ directory

but in your opinion how can i exclude that bad results?

Do i Have to write

Disallow: /shopdisplayproducts.asp ??

This change is made to reduce the rebound rate from the website

I hope I explained myself, I will await your help as always

Hi,

IMHO, you would need to use a full URL for "Disallow" command in robots.txt. This to make sure that only the exact bad URL that will not indexed by search engine.

So the code would be like the following format:
Disallow: http://www.stockelettrico.it/shopdisplayproducts.asp?search=yes&bc=no&queryprefix=No&cname=O

Or you might need a pattern matching to make sure only the above URL that will not be indexed?

Hope this helps!

There are countless url of this kind, every time a customer makes a search is generated url of this kind and the meeting between the results of google

I''d like to disallow all this bad urls with just one line. But it''s not so easy

The rules to disallow a page or all page of a directory are this:

disallow: /page.html <<< one page
disallow: /pages/ <<< all pages start by mysite.com/pages/XXXXX

.asp i quite hard to disallow cause as you can see there is no a directory

shopdisplayproducts.asp?

Hi,

Have you tried enabling friendly URLs on your store? This way, the product URLs will be like this:

yoursite.com/products/11-Classic-Wood-Dining-Table/

This way, you could try disallow the shopdisplayproducts.asp URL on robots.txt. Have a look on Chapter 22.3 SEO Dynamic Generator of the User Manual on how to enable friendly URLs.

Hope this helps!
