Hi,
we have many retail customers who will add products to their baskets and then get called away to deal with their own customers (forgetting to save the order) and when they come back to the PC their basket is gone. I know this is to do with the session timeouts but some of our customers say that other sites that they order from they don't have to save the basket but it is still there even after they switch off the PC and go back a few days later. Is this to do with automatically stored cookies on the customers' PCs? If it is, is there any way I can set up a similar automatic cookie basket storage for our own customers?

Hi Carrol
Great timing with this!
Funnily enough we have just released a new module today for VPASP 650 that allows you to keep the items stored in the cart for 7 days.
The items are not cleared until shopthanks.asp is reached.
You can download this from our download center.
Hope this helps!
Thanks Cam

Hi,
I've tried to add this to our site but get the following error when an item is added to the basket.
quote: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e07'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
/shopalsobought.asp, line 131
Line 131 in shopalsobought.asp is
quote: set rs=orderdbc.execute(sql)
Any ideas?

I've just implemented this add on and it works a treat.
Many thanks to the VP-ASP team.

I know I said that this works a treat but after a few days of using this add on I've noticed a glitch.
Our site only displays prices when the customers are logged in and we have automatic login set up which works fine for those who want this - the prices are displayed without the need to enter log in details. However, with this new add-on if you place add an order to the basket on our site, close down the browser and return later, yes the current order is still there but there are no prices displayed either throughout the site or in the actual basket. Clicking on the Account/Login says login successful but still no prices are displayed. The only way that I have found to get the prices back on the screen is to click the checkout button. Surely the customers shouldn't have to do this each time they return to the site to get our prices displayed. This only happens when a customer returns to the site with a current active basket.
Any ideas?

I just thought I would update this thread.
The new cart cookie add-on really is a great free add-on but unfortunately I've been told by support that it will not work correctly with our shop configuration which is set for displaying prices only to logged in customers. I figured out an easy workaround for our customers and they don't seem to mind as long as all their items are still in the basket when they return to the site.

I'm not sure what version I have but my manual says vpasp450developer.pdf. Does that mean I won't be able to use the download? Thanks. |
