I have two sites, one uses vs. 5.5, the other uses 6.09.

In vs. 5.5, adding a product to several categories is very simple: hold down control and click as many different categories as appropriate.

In vs. 6.09, it is much slower as the screen must refresh each time. This might be more of a problem as I'm using SQL2005, and sometimes a refresh of any screen seems to take forever.

I have hundreds of products that should be placed in many more categories than they currently are. Could someone suggest the fastest way to do this with vs. 6.09?

You could do an export of all your products, then do the edit in Excel or something similar, then import the products using the bulk import feature. Then I believe you need to run the CONVERTPRODUCTS.ASP file.

we've got 2 links (free/info links, not addon links) which help explain this aspect in detail (vpasp also have a link somewhere to explain it)....

1) How can I import products using multiple categories/branches?

2) Importing using tab-separated files:
http://www.bigyellowzone.com/support/issue_view.asp?ID=442&CATE=8

something else that we did to speed up the edit-product screen was to change the cross-selling list to a hidden field, turned off cross-selling in the config options, and took out the cross-selling list-population, because once you get over about 100 products it becomes practically pointless/unusable and just slows down the loading of the screen.

we then used our own cross-selling addon to use a different potherx column to store cross-sold items, entering the ccodes into that list/field as a comma separated list:

secondary/enhanced cross-selling:
