Hi, I ahve set up the affiliates system and can see how it works on the first link from an affilate, the result being that the affilate is rewarded with a %. What happens when that same purchaser, purchases something a week later, but goes directly to my site and not through the affiliate. Should the affiliate receive a % of the sale and if so, where do I find this information. Regards Cara |

Hi Cara,
You can either set it for a one time use or you can set a cookie so the affiliates details are stored on the customers computer until they order.
Please see: http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shopexd.asp?id=257
Thanks Cam

Hi Cara,
If "xAffiliateUseCookies" is set to 'yes' in the setup, then a cookie is place on the 'purchasers' computer, (until it expires or is removed).
By default the cookie is valid for 365 days.
You can edit this if you like, do a search for 'Response.Cookies("affid").expires=date()+365' and edit the 365.
Your affiliate reporting picks up the links and sales when the cookie is /was in place.
As to quote: Should the affiliate receive a % of the sale
thats something you would need to review as part of your overall affiliate business plan.
It seems the default ranges from 30 - 60 days. If the 'purchaser' comes back after that time and comes back through the affiliate's web site then the cookie is used if it is there or a new one is place.
Alternatively there are other affiliate options where the 'purchaser' can choose the affiliate they want to order assigned to in a drop down box in the checkout form.
You may want to look at the help notes at http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shoptocdetail.asp?id=53#748 and http://www.vpasp.com/helpnotes/shoptocdetail.asp?id=53#394.
Hope this helps.
