Does anybody know how the sorting is done on sub products in Version 7 ? It doesn't seem to follow the sort method as do products under the categories. It seems to only sort by how they are added.

Been a mystery. Just checking.

Thanks,
Dave Layton

Hi Dave,

You are able to define the "sorting field" at config : xsortproducts
for example, i change it to "level5" (without quotes),
then i just need to define the sequence at the Product Setup > Spare Fields > Other Fields 5

due to "level5" is a text fields, hence you need to define the sequence as:
01
02
.
.
.
10
11
.
99

if you have product more than 100, then you need to use
001
002
.
.
.
010
011
.
099

because system will sort by 0 first then only 1.

If you want order by descending, just enter "level5 desc" in the xsortproducts
for ascending just enter "level5 asc"

pls note that this setting is apply the ALL products but for sub product only.

hope it helps.

Thanks
zach

Dear Dave,

My post above is confusing.

let my explain gain clearly.

i know there is vpasp config called Xsortproducts which you can use for this purpose.

by default, the value usually cname, which means to sort by product name.
you can change it to use any other field, for example set to : level5.
then so that each of your product can be ordered by the value of level5 field, due to "level5" is a text fields,
you need to define the sequence as 001,002,003,...010,011,999(because system will sort by 0 first then only 1 in'text' format) value into each of products for the level5 field.

In edit product page, the 'level5' field is labelled as "Other Fields 5".
So go to edit each of your product and enter value in "Other Fields 5" field eg. 001 (if you want this product to be displayed first).

Then go edit the other product and enter value in "Other Fields 5" eg. 002.
and so on for the next products with labelling. 003, 004, 005, 006, 007 etc.....

eventually the above trick can be applied for all products, not only sub products.

that is all, the text from my revision.

Thanks
zach
