 rename admin folder

I keep seeing that we should rename our admin folder for security reasons but im not sure of the best wat to do it.

Every time i try, thing dont work right anymore(links and things).

Can someone please explane the best way to go about reaning the admin folder in a way that works for a newbe like me .

Hi there

Are you using version 7? If so you should be able to just change the folder name using your FTP program.

Then just make sure you access your admin using the new link.

I just wanted to clarify... So we rename the admin folder to something like for example; admin724

And then, when we access the admin we just enter www.website.com/admin724/shopadminblahblah.asp instead of the usual www.website.com/admin/shopadminblahblah.asp

And to make sure, renaming the folder is not going affect use of the site, working of the admin etc? Do we need to stipulate the change elsewhere?

That is correct. Changing the admin folder name will not affect anything.
