Hello,

I would like to sell data files to my customers. The customer can purchase the file as a one-time purchase, or they could subscribe to get file updates every month. If the customer wants monthly subscription, they will still be required to pay up-front at the time of subscription. I want to send out email messages at the beginning of each month to customers, who have signed up to receive file updates monthly. The monthly updates could be up to one year. The email I send to subscription customers should contain a link to a location on the site where they can login with their account information and download the particular file they signed-up for. The file needs of each customer will be different. In other words, no one customer can have access to all file products unless they subscribed to it.

a) Can this be set-up in VPASP-PLUS?

b) Do I need to purchase the recurring billing Add-on to make this happen?

c) Where do I store the individual files for each customer at the beginning of each month so they can download from an email link?

d) How can I send out e-mails to subscription customers so that each customer is able to download only the file they signed up for?

I will appreciate any help on setting this up.

Hi John,

I am no expert but I'll share with you what I have on my site as I think it is similar in some ways so may help. I use the secure download facility on version 6.09 - not sure if you have this in VPASP-Plus or not. I did have to get some customisation done by the VPASP team to set up the subscription facility so that after paying the subs then customers could get free downloads for a month, a year, a certain number or whatever. They just ordered and checked out in the normal way and the price was zero. The order confirmation page includes a link to the download and a confirmation email is sent. Customers can see all their previous downloads from their "My Account" screen and download repeatedly if they want to.

I don't charge subs anymore (I'm switching to advertising) but if you want to see how the secure download works you could order any of my pub walks for free and you'll see what I mean. Now that I do not charge a subscription, I think this part of the cart was standard for version 6.09.

Hope that helps a little at least. Not many people seem to use the secure downloads so I find you don't get as many replies to postings as you might with other topics.

Many thanks for your supportive comments and I appreciate your suggestion of the byz search addon. I just bought their Product File Management software and am really pleased with that. The seach addon looks great value so will take up your advice in the near future.
