I'm not sure of the exact nature of the translation logic that vpasp applies with its generic static files, but for our static addons it would, by default, strip-out non-alpha-numerics in the "file url" column when it sets the default filename, but then after that happens you could also optionally manually change the url before you generate the files.
If you wanted to use the generic vpasp static files rather than our static file addons then I think this is probably one for the help desk, because all non-alphanumerics (apart from some things like hyphens) should be getting stripped-out or replaced for the filenames/folders.
