Is is possible to configure the shipping cost following the customer zip code.

I use the ups lookup database for this. This is an available download. You'll have to repopulate the tables with your rates and maybe makes some changes to the shipping methods but it 's fairly easy to do if you have some knowledge of Microsoft Access databases.
