For the past two weeks now I’ve been getting a lot of inbound spam in my review system where previously i had none.
I’m unsure of the exact mechanism being used to overwhelm the soft word scattering on the VPASP pages, but it seems like someone just noticed that allot of VPASP site owners have a similar structure to their site so they built a system to break the code.

I've got inbound search requests on my site originating from CHINA mother of all things bootleg searching VPASP review pages.

The search string identifies over 5600 vpasp review pages.

inurl:.com inurl:/shopping inurl:/shopreviewlist.asp? inurl:id=

i took a look at some of the pages that came up in this result set and found reviews with links to things like WOW GOLD! and forex, something which has been coming through my site since the middle of last month. Its pretty clear the VPASP word scrambler has either been cracked, or someone has made it financially viable to do this manually.

Either way, i think i would like to go about renaming my review page for starters, and secondly renaming the field elements so that if they are using an automated screen system it will not work because the HTML tags do not match those on other pages. This would make parsing my site, or any other site taking similar precautions return exceptions and need to be individually coded for.

Right off the back I’ll just say I’m not sure how extensive of a change renaming the asp file is, but renaming the HTML elements should be rather quick and effective.

Obviously i should say once they get to shopreviewlist the adds are being made from shopreviewadd.asp so perhaps that's the one that should be renamed, its definatly where your going to have to rename your buttons.

Just to update... i renamed the button, but only so far as its text name and i still got spam. Programs could easily identify the button with other screen elements. There are two key issues here. The image genorated on the page is very weak and the text is not random, and the page name is very easy to identify. fixing either of these two problems should be of great help here.

I'm not really sure how involved it is to rename the file at this time though. Any thoughts?

As a resolution to this issue the support staff have provided me with an update to the captcha software that comes with vpasp. They informed me of many much needed enhancements to the product which i think are great and will squash this manifestation of the spam problem.

They didn't give me any details on where or how others might get this update, so for now i would really recomend everyone just contact the help desk and get them to email you the patch. I have not installed it yet because i'm out of the office, but it looks pretty damn good.
